Scrambler/climber

Distichlis distichophylla

Common Names:
Australian Salt Grass

Often confused with the weed couch grass (Cynodon dactylon), but can be distinguished by the leaves which alternate on stems. Prostrate creeping grass, which can grow up small bushes or surrounding structures to 2m, but usually only grows to 40cm.

Clematis microphylla

Common Names:
Small-leaved Clematis

A vigorous climber with finely divided pale green foliage, tangled stems and creamy coloured flowers in winter. Male and female flowers are produced on seperate plants (this is called 'dioeceious' in botanical lingo, meaning 'two houses').

Rubus parvifolius

Common Names:
Small-leaved Raspberry

A scrambling, suckering plant with fine, prickly stems. The leaves are made up of three or five leaflets, attractively pleated and bright green above, felty white below. The felted greyish flower buds open in October to February. The crinkly, rose-pink petals are curiously arranged as can be seen in the photo. These are bent sharply inwards near the base, pressing closely to the bundle of stamens and stigmas in the middle of the flower.
