Melbourne Water rocks
I have been asked to respond to a Melb Water proposal on re stabalizing the banks of the Moonee Ponds Creek mostly with rocks. Although their language is about 'minimal impact, social responsibility and naturalization', I have concerns. Does any one know of a re stabalized creek edge that looks good? That has been done by Melb Water? or looks so bad as to serve as a reminder of what not to accept? I would like photos of the sites or a Mel ref and site name so I can have a look.
Does anyone have advise or stories to share?

Judy, I reckon if they're doing it to reduce erosion, they're likely to make a solid embankment out of the rocks, leaving no room for plants (called rock beeching or beaching or something, I think). There's a really good example of this on Gardiners Creek (Melway 59, somewhere between E5 and H6), built by Leighton Contractors for VicRoads, based on a requirement by Melbourne Water for solid beeching.
There's another Ellis Stones effort in Rosanna Parklands (Melway 20 B9) but it's ugly (sorry, Ellis, normally I love your work). Drop in for a cuppa if you decide to check it out.

Ellis Stones landscaped Glass Creek with large rocks at the point where it exits from the barrel drain. This is in East Kew, on Melways, map 46, almost at the corner of Kilby Rd and Frater St. It is not bad as these things go, though currently getting a little unstable and due to be redone...by Melbourne Water!
