Local Provenance

The nursery will make available a map clearly showing the areas for which it supplies indigenous plants of local provenance.  Indigenous plants means plants which are indigenous species of the area the nursery supplies.Indigenous species means a species that occurs at a place within its historically known natural range and that forms part of the natural biodiversity of a place. (Definition from the Australian Natural Heritage Charter.)Local provenance means propagated from collections from locations as close geographically and in terms of habitat as practicible to the location where the propagated plants are to be planted (if you have a better definition put it in).  Propagated plants will be labeled with the provenance of the original seed or other propagule material, and separate provenances will be tracked in internal  database systems (maybe also in external communications such as catalogues), from the collection stage through to the sale of propagated plants. If inquiries are received for plants to be planted outside the area the nursery supplies indigenous plants to, a polite referral will be given to other suitable nurseries within the Indigenous Nurseries Network.
