IFFA Outing to Clematis
IFFA members are invited to Clematis (near Emerald in foothills of the Dandenong Ranges) for an exploration of the area's Ecological Vegetation Classes and a fun few hours rambling!
Saturday 7 August 12 midday to 3.30pm
Join Karen Alexander President of the Johns Hill Landcare Group.
A resident of the area for more than 20 years Karen will guide us through various plantings and also some surprising findings that have altered the EVC’s in the local area. Bookings required.
Karen Alexander has a long history in the environment movement starting as an overwhelmed volunteer in the campaign to save Lake Pedder, to a co-ordinating role in the stopping of the damming of the Franklin River in Tasmania, to her work today with the Victoria Naturally Alliance (nine environment groups) on the health of nature in Victoria.
She has been active in many campaigns, some paid, such as campaigns director for the Australian Conservation Foundation and running courses at local community houses, and many unpaid roles such as President of Bush Heritage Australia, Secretary of her local landcare group (the Johns Hill Landcare Group), and helping set up the Greens in Victoria.
She loves being in very wild places with her partner, David, her camera and pen. With David and friends, she is regenerating their 24 acres in the Dandenongs that was cleared and farmed by her developer grandfather. She likes to think this symbolises a broader change in our relationships with this land. And very importantly these days she’s Granny Karen to four gorgeous kids.
Please bring you own lunch and wet weather gear. There are some fairly steep gradients to negotiate on the walk and the occasional blackberry.
Meet at Karen’s at the northern end of Edenmont Road Clematis-at the front gate (property called Robynvalley). Melways Map 127 B3 or see Google Maps
