Eremophila longifolia

Common Names:
Long Leaf Emubush

Medium sized shrub to small tree with drooping braches and pale green/grey linear leaves. Often grows in small clusters where the parent tree is surrounded by smaller trees produced by suckering. Flowers are tubular and are pinkish often spotted or mottled with a deep red colour.

Distribution:

Widespread throughout inland and arid areas of Australia. In Victoria it only occurs in the north west.

Ecology:

Eremophila longifolia can grow in different soil types and survives in areas with high temperatures and unpredictable rainfall patterns, this allows it to grow over a large geographical area. The fruit is eaten by emus and the nectar attracts many types of honeyeaters. The leaves have been used by Aborigines for medicinal and ceremonial purposes.

Gardening Hints:

Successfully cultivated in dry climates and warm temperate areas. Grow in an open sunny area with good drainage. Tolerates moderate frost and extended dry periods.
