The purpose of this code of practice is to provide a standard so that indigenous nurseries better service and reliability to customers (whether they pay or not).
This is an almost blank book waiting to be written. If you've got something to say, add it here.
In a sense this is a book stub; chapters can be added (after loggin in use the "add child page" link below), and their order configured using the weight setting in the edit dialog. Chapters are listed below. They also might be stubs, with little useful text, waiting for someone to write them.
Please feel free to contribute your thoughts to this draft code of practice, respecting the thoughts of others who have contributed.
Florabank have developed a code of practice located here
The nursery will make available a map clearly showing the areas for which it supplies indigenous plants of local provenance. Indigenous plants means plants which are indigenous species of the area the nursery supplies.Indigenous species means a species that occurs at a place within its historically known natural range and that forms part of the natural biodiversity of a place. (Definition from the Australian Natural Heritage Charter.)Local provenance means propagated from collections from locations as close geographically and in terms of habitat as practicible to the location where the propagated plants are to be planted (if you have a better definition put it in). Propagated plants will be labeled with the provenance of the original seed or other propagule material, and separate provenances will be tracked in internal database systems (maybe also in external communications such as catalogues), from the collection stage through to the sale of propagated plants. If inquiries are received for plants to be planted outside the area the nursery supplies indigenous plants to, a polite referral will be given to other suitable nurseries within the Indigenous Nurseries Network.
Plant stock supplied to customers will be of high quality and will be free of weeds and pathogens. Bulk orders will be screened and defective plants removed. Only healthy plants will be billed for. If inadequate numbers of a particular species result from propagation to meet an order, substitution of other provenances, or other species may be appropriate, but only with the authority of the customer.
The nursery will endeavor to use ecologically sustainable practices wherever practical. This includes:
